Reward Your Muscles
You just completed your hardest training session of the week. You head out of the gym, already drooling over your next meal…which you assume you’ll be having in about three or four hours.
Whether you were training to build muscle, gain mass or lose weight, waiting until your next big meal to eat can completely sabatoge your efforts.
When you train, your muscles are working over-time; you went from sleeping to running, from sitting at a desk all day to pumping iron, from keeping house to jumping around to a cardio video. Your muscles worked hard when you asked them to! They expended more energy than they were prepared for…and you need to reward them.
Now, you don’t want to un-do everything you just did in your training session! The solution—a healthy protein snack.
If you want to lose weight, have a shaker cup with protein powder ready to mix up (Muscle Milk Light, Lean Body for Her or Nectar are good choices). This light snack will replenish your energy stores without refilling your fat stores, as well as taking the edge off your hunger so once your next meal does get in front of you, you’re not tempted to overindulge.
If you want to gain/build, a hefty shake helps you add in the protein and carbs necessary for your muscles to grow. Ideally, you’ll want to take some glutamine (such as MHP’s 12-Hour Glutamine) 15 minutes before a calorie-heavy protein shake (Probolic-SR, Dark Matter, Muscle Milk, or Lean Body are great options).
A combination of leucine, glutamine and valine (such as in Xtend) is recommended after all training sessions, as it provides the optimal nutrients needed for proper muscle recovery.
Always be sure to have enough water, too!
In that 1 hr post-workout, what you eat determines how well your muscles recover. Make sure they’re strong and fueled enough to carry you the rest of the day and into tomorrow’s workout!

Great blog Bobby. I have a question for you and hopefully you could answer me here or via e-mail.
I am 31 years old, I do practice martial arts (for cardio) and hit the gym 2 -3 times a week, when I can’t, I just do regular push ups, situps and run a bit, I try to be in shape.I’m 5′10″ and I have an athletic body, 160-170 range weight. The question is this, I would like to gain a lil’ bit more of body mass. What would you suggest. Thanks in advice.

Great blogs and website Bobby. I gatta tell you though you are one hell of an explosive athlete. Your raw power is phenomenal and reminded me of Goldberg, miss ya on RAW. Keep up the good work and hope to see your MMA debut soon.
September 5th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
The WWE has just not been the same without you Mr. Lashley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are one incredible athlete!!!
There are already a number of UFC athletes in movies such as Randy Couture and with your movie star good looks it is a given that YOU TOO should be in Holloywood movies as well as running your business pursuits. I hope you are at present or have taken acting lessons and will do so in the future to hone your acting skills. Many of the UFC fighjters are homely sons of guns — the opposite of yourself — but if their faces are bruised it is at least no damage done for future film possibilities. that situation would totally change with you however…I know you are an incredible wrestler but how fast and how skilled are you with martial arts movements Sir. With all due respect, you are not like the other UFC athletes and can not afford to have facial bones broken etd. etc. best of luck with the UFC Big Guy…………Your devoted fan.. ron welker. waterloo ontario canada

Bobby, Thanks for all of the advice with my supplementation. We cant wait to see you back in the wrestling room. I hope your business does well. –TB

hey Bobby-
best of luck with the online store. of course I was a huuuge fan of urs in wwe; I considered u as one of few pro athletes who still make a good role model for my kids. I’m also a huge MMA fan- so I look forward to seeing u in that arena as well. BTW- ur prices crush GNC and Vitamin Shoppe… keep up the good work.

Hi great blog Bobby, you were and still are my and my best friends favourite wrestler and you inspired us to catch a dream and hang on even if its a bumpy ride. Earlier this year when we heard you got released we were devastated and still haven’t accepted it. Ever scince then wwe has never been the same without you. But you had an amzing run so thats why this year me and my best friend have decided to try to be in the wwe one day. And if we do I will personly induct you into the wwe hall of fame. We have already started training with your phenomenal health and work out tips plus my mum is a huge fan as well. Best of wishes with your new business and Kristal. Take care 1 of your 2 biggest fans Mohammed Ismail.
